Lest You Think There Is No More Produce

There is still some lovely produce in the garden. The tomatoes are producing well. The zucchini is winding down finally. I have to admit that I am happy to see some of this zucchini die. I really did plant too much of it and I am ready to stop picking it. I’m almost to the point where I can tear out the plants and not feel badly.

The cucumbers are nearly gone too. I still have a few of these strange cucumbers coming up. I did not plant these intentionally. The plant grew from one of the seeds in my packet of course, but this was not one of the cucumber breeds I bought. Anyway, I just think they are kind of strange looking.

And, Yeah, I’m Still In the Garden

There are all manner of things coming out of the garden now. Onions, tomatoes, okra, zucchini, cucumbers, green beans, basil, thai chilies, jalapenos, and sometimes potatoes too.   I’m spending at least 30 minutes picking in the garden every day.  Some days it is closer to 90 minutes.  Especially on green bean picking days.

While I was picking said beans, I found a little friend.  I’m actually ok with the praying mantis in the garden.  It freaked me out when I found one on my hand though.  I was expecting a zucchini leaf attached to my hand, not the bug.  I might have done a bit of a dance and yelled “Wa-AAAAAH!”

A lot of Produce

There are so many zucchini and cucumbers coming on.  The tomatoes are just starting to really produce.  As there are no gophers in garden this year, my green beans are still growing and producing.  I just blanched a bag of beans over the weekend and tossed them in the freezer.  The jalapenos are beginning to really produce.  Of course, I have lots of kale and some basil and cilantro.  It has been a lovely year in the garden and I’m looking forward to eating form the garden all winter long.  🙂

Pot Garden

Perhaps not the kind of pot you were thinking? It’s a big buzz here in Oregon right now. As of July, maijuana will be legal here. I’m not sure yet how I feel about that. I think I am leaning towards, “as long as it does not harm me” I don’t mind it. Sort of like basketball.

In any case, I put in a few pots on the deck and filled them with some herbs and, with any luck, thai chilies. The empty pot is currently planted to chilies. I don’t like them particularly, but my husband does.

The mock orange is blooming profusely and I walk under some branches on my way to the barn. They smell lovely and it makes my walk to and from the barn more cheerful.

The blueberries are growing nicely. I’m looking forward to a nice harvest soon.  I took a photo of the new small buch because the old tall bushes have berries at head height.  They happen to be harder to photograph.

The little wild blackberries are beginning to ripen as well.  I’m starting to worry about whether I will have enough time to harvest and process it all!
