I demonstrated with the Portland Lace Society at the Oregon State Fair and took a few photos.
Hmmmm. I guess that was more than a few.
I happened to take a few photos of the imaginative and utterly fantastic cakes while I was in the open exhibit building. The cakes were so whimsical and beautifully fashioned. I just loved these two especially. The detail work is amazing. I’m lucky to smooth the cupcake tops so that they don’t look too rustic.
While I was taking a break from the blog, I made it to the Oregon State Fair to check out my results. Of my eight projects, six received firsts.
The only entries that did not receive a ribbon were my colorwork mittens and my handspun handknit cowl. Considering that many of my entries were pulled from the “Christmas Box,” I’m happy with my entries!
Yuh-Chi also suggested that we take a ferry ride and after checking out our options, we settled on Bainbridge Island. I thought I would have more trouble with the ferry ride, but as it turns out, I can handle a ferry ride just fine.
Here was our view of Seattle from the Ferry.
And we enjoyed a little time on Bainbridge Island at the Fay Bainbridge State Park.
So, Avi and a friend, and I, decided to do some morel mushroom hunting in Tillamook State Forest this weekend. Sadly we didn’t find any. We did have a nice walk though.
The trail is very steep and while the walk DOWN was pleasant, the walk back up was horrifying.
Avi and Yuh-chi were ahead of me most of the time. I prefer the gentler sports of competitive knitting and downhill tatting, so hiking was a little more difficult for me.
We found some familiar sights in an unfamiliar setting.
There were these giant calla lily like plants along a stream. It was very primordial and similar to a “Jurassic park” landscape.
We found some fallen logs and fun bridges.
There were also streams that meandered and gave us some great photo opportunities.
There were many trilliums blooming.
There was even one growing on a tree.
We also found some mushrooms, just not the ones we were looking for on the trail. Yuh-chi and I are planning another excursion. Hopefully it bears more mushrooms.
