Artichoke Flowers

So, artichokes are really thistles. Just big ones. And tasty ones. I had never seen an artichoke plant in person until I started working for Teresa. Turns out, those plants are huge! And really kind of pretty. I can definitely see them in my future as a gardener, right along with gooseberries. I love the gooseberry plants.

Anyway. Teresa was busy and finally let the artichoke flower. Have you ever seen an artichoke flower? It’s kind of amazing.

That is my hand for comparison. Giant flowers!

Beautiful Blooms Again

I feel like I keep using the same title, but it is so hard to come up with new titles when I’m showing you more flowers. Maybe I should surprise you all and start using completely unrelated titles for the flower photos.

Check out all of the huge poppies on this plant. I love the color too. I remember my grandmother having the same color poppies at her house.

The torch lilies are almost finished blooming. I am sure the hummingbirds have taken full advantage of the flowers while they are in bloom.

The chives are even blooming. Yes, there are some peonies in the background as well.

Ok. The strawberry isn’t really a flower, but check out the cute little berry. I just couldn’t resist taking a photo before it turned fully red. I’m not sure how many of these we will have this year. The strawberry bed is a bit sparse.

More Flowers At Home

I found some lovely flowers at home as well.

I’m not sure what these little purple ones are, but I find them rather charming.

Cherry blossoms in the sour cherry tree.

Apple blossoms in one of the many apple trees.

This pink rhododendron was in full bloom.

While the red rhododendron is just starting to unfurl.

And the blueberry bushes are flaunting their lovely bell shaped flowers.

Terribly backlit again. I’m sorry for all of the crappy photos this year. I’m in such a hurry right now that I just don’t have time to stalk the perfect photo like I did last spring. Still, I do have some lovely lilacs right now. I wish they made better cut flowers. The scent is just heavenly.

The columbines are great though. I love the way these flowers look. I never knew how much I would enjoy columbines until I discovered some growing out here. I’m really looking forward to their full glory when all of the blooms are open. You might see these flowers again. 🙂
