There are moments when hunting a particular pair of socks that steal the breath, freeze the blood, and bare your darkest thoughts to the world. Times when dark predators destroy the very socks you had hoped to capture. Bush Sock Cats, Toe Leopards, Heel Flap Raccoons, and various other predators abound that feast on my favorite photographic subjects. It is always a race between predator, prey, and sock hunter.
Luckily, I was able to snap the photographs of my *Envy Socks before the notorious Heel Flap Raccoons raided their nesting area. Their long graceful columns and beautiful, but simple openwork were highlighted by the turning leaves. The pair were carefully building a second nest after successfully fledging socklings earlier in the year. Sadly, some few days after this picture was taken, one sock was **killed by a Heel Flap Raccoon.
This is your saddened Sock Hunter, once again confronted by the vagaries of existence, signing off.
