Liblikakiri Shawl Preview

At some point I will have this shawl pattern available for purchase, and take better pictures of it. 🙂 Right now it’s finished, the charts are done, but I haven’t put the pattern together or had someone test knit it. My goal with this little bit of love was to use 1, and only 1, skein of Malabrigo Lace. I love Malabrigo, but hate having leftover yarn from a second skein.

My stitch patterns are based on two Estonian Lace Stitches, a version of Liblikakiri (butterfly) and a half-drop leaf stitch. Neither one is quite the same as the original, but both are instantly recognizable.

Pattern: Liblikakiri Shawl (my own)
Yarn: Malabrigo Lace in color Pagoda Red, 470 yards, 100% Merino Wool
Needle: US 4 Hiya Hiya Interchangeable Circulars

Anyone interested in test knitting this? I will warn you that it is not for an inexperienced lace knitter. There is patterning on both sides in the butterfly section and the nupps must be executed carefully to keep them uniform and round.  Drop a note in the comments or send me an email (knitterbunny AT gmail DOT com) if you might like to test knit this shawl.

The Next Day

We spent some time wandering around Old Downtown Scottsdale.  There are some lovely little shops, cute restaurants, and kitschy tourist type things.

Really? Wouldn’t you have taken a picture of this too?

100_0428
More statues. 🙂

100_0429
Oh. Look. It’s a cactus.

100_0431
The bees were out in full force though. Blooming plants everywhere.

100_0432
Yes, that’s right, more cacti.

100_0433
I did find a rabbit again. Sort of.

100_0437
Lunch was at “Cien Agaves” or for the lay person “100 Agaves” as in tequilas. The tacos were tasty, but TINY. I expect nicely sized dishes, and these were sub-par.

100_0439
But, it was ok. We had ice cream for dessert.

100_0440
Cookies and Cream for me.

Kona Coffee for the boy

More fun yet to come.

Some Highlights

We spent time wandering downtown Mesa.  The statues were cute and I neglected to take pictures of anything else.

100_0414
The fat pig made me laugh.

100_0418
I loved the mother bear and her cubs.

100_0421
“Fish? Fish for me?”

100_0423
The shoe made me laugh.

More to come later. 🙂
