After ignoring her, and cutting her into pieces, I’ve finally finished this sweater. The zipper worried me a bit, specially when I had it basted in and realized that I had no zipper foot for my sewing machine. So, I hand sewed the zipper in. Yes, that’s right. I hand sewed the entire zipper, plus a backing ribbon, to this sweater. It is not something that I am particularly good at, nor did I relish the project.
However, I can wear this sweater and it doesn’t look too horrible.
The stats:
Pattern: Vivian by Ysolda Teague (Ravlink) available through the Twist Collective
Yarn: Cascade Ecological Wool in Lilac (discontinued color)
Needle: US 8 Circular
Modifications: I cut 6 rows out of the hood, and, um, I cut off the sleeves and reknit them. Heh
Really, had I not completely screwed up my sleeves, this would have been a thoroughly enjoyable knit. As it is, this was still an enjoyable knit, but it’s going to take me a little while to decide if I ever want to knit this again.

It’s beautiful…I’ve only begun to knit and crochet. I can’t wait until I can make something to wear. I must be such a great feeling.

Woohoo! She looks great. Personally I would sew the zip in by hand on a handknit anyway, rather do it once well than several times. The knitted fabric would ‘creep’ on the machine and after all the knitting time why take a short cut finishing?
Wow. Gorgeous!
I’m not sure about the back personally. I mean don’t get me wrong, you can pull it off. But I don’t think I could pull off diverging cables that form kind of a butt-parenthesis….
Sorry you had such troubles, but, boy, it is pretty. I adore bell sleeves myself, and the front cabling does wonders in accentuating the shaping.
It’s beautiful! I’ve finally caught up on your blog. Great knitting as always.
Definitely does not look like something to be wearing in summer.
It also looks gorgeous and I would be coveting it if it were currently fall.
Gorgeous! I think the diverging cables are wonderful and give your body and the handknit a wonderful shape
Congrats!
Totally, completely, stunning. Sewed the zipper by hand–that’s amazing! Incredible!
Um, your comment on which spindle was not conclusive. In fact, you added even more dither to the equation
It looks great on you, nice job fixing the sleeves!
